STCC Open Day (28th August)

Thank you to everyone involved in this year’s club day. It isn’t everyday you get to meet an England Cricket Captain.

A few special mentions to those who ensured the day ran smoothly; Mark Laud, who was on site from 6:30 am to make sure the day went ahead, Amy Juckes for making the teas, the girls behind the bar, Rob Manton for his photography, Pete Clarke from the Grammar School for ensuring the ground and wickets were prepared, Alison Barnes and Carl Andrews for selling raffle tickets, and everyone who turned up to make the day a success.

England Ladies Captain Heather Knight to Attend STCC Open Day (28th August)!

We are pleased to announce that our annual Presidents day will be attended by England star Heather Knight (pictured below after being announced as England captain in June).HeatherKnight

Aged just 25, she has been a regular in the England Ladies team for a number of years. In her first One Day International as England captain she scored 50 not out and took 5/26 – a format in which she has excelled, averaging 33 with the bat, and a miserly 21 with the ball! On 28th August, she will be doing a ‘masterclass’ training session with the STCC Ladies team.

Also on the 28th, we will have multiple matches, kids entertainment, and coaching sessions. Throughout the day we will have food and beverage facilities open for players and supporters alike.

On the day, the 200 Club Prize Draw will take place – so please let us know if you require any tickets. We will also have a raffle with some fantastic prizes – from holiday break to signed memorabilia.

The day will culminate with the Academy awards presentation.

Rough Timings:

  • 10-30 – 12.00 – Under 9 matches and training sessions ( maybe even “mums & dads” )
  • 12.00 – 14.00 – Under 11 and Under 13 hard ball matches
  • 14.30  onwards  – Senior 30 over match
  • 15.00 – 17.00 – Ladies net coaching ‘masterclass’ with Heather Knight
  • 17.00 – Academy Awards

If you have any questions / queries or would like to get involved in the day, please get in touch with Andrew Cook or Mark Laud.

Newsletter (08/03/16)

I thought that it was about time I updated you as to what has been happening since the end of last season.

Preparations for the new season are now well under way, both senior and junior nets/training sessions have been under way since late January, and it is pleasing to see some new faces at all sessions. I have been pleased to note the attendance of all three senior club captains at Friday night sessions, when their time permits, and to note the enthusiasm from those that are joining them. Competition for places in the Saturday sides this season looks to be strong, especially with some of the junior players coming to the fore.

I have had the pleasure of attending most if not all of the junior training sessions, and as ever special mention must go to our great set of coaches. Each week our coaches give their time voluntarily to teach the great game of cricket, to an ever increasing number of children that come and join us, keep up the good work. May I wish all of our juniors that are involved with County or Regional coaching sessions the very best of luck for the 2016 season, your club and its coaches are proud of you all for promoting Spalding Town Cricket Club.

The ladies squad have been in training for a couple of weeks now under the guidance of their new coach Rob Simpson, his input has already been noted as very positive by the ladies. Here too we have had the attendance of some new faces that are already, at this early stage showing some talent for the game, we wish you luck for the season ahead!

Off the field the committee has been hard at work behind the scenes ensuring the smooth running of the club. I am pleased to announce that we have a new principal sponsor for the senior sides for 2016, Consilium Wealth; we thank you for your support along with that of all our sponsors. The support from our club sponsors is invaluable to us, so please support them and their businesses wherever possible. We must also pay special thanks to our landlords, Spalding Grammar School, for continuing to allow us the use of the schools facilities.

On the social front we recently held a quiz night at the clubhouse, I can honestly say that the turnout pleasantly surprised us! The evening was a great success in integrating the club, we had representation from all teams and junior age groups, thank you to all those that attended. For me this was particularly pleasing to see, as when elected as Chairman I said “I would like to have a united and family orientated club”, we certainly got this. A special mention must go to Mark Laud who as ever took on ‘fire fighting’ duties helping Chrissie behind the bar, whom must also be complimented for coping so well with the numbers that attended, and also to Rhianna for collecting in the funds. Further events will be organised so please keep any eye on the website and social media for information.

After Easter we will be looking to move to outdoor net/training sessions, Friday nights are planned to be a night for all to gather and enjoy a social evening together. Once we have dates and timings confirmed we will post on here and social media.

Lastly may I thank everyone for their continued support, from the committee, players, and coaches and of course parents, I appreciate it very much.
