Chairman’s Welcome 2017

May I welcome you all to Spalding Town Cricket Club for what promises to be an exciting 2017 season; the sound of leather upon willow is once again upon us.

I would like to start by thanking those of you that saw fit to retain me as your Chairman for a second term. I must say that I couldn’t have taken over the helm at a better time with 2016 proving to be a buoyant season for the Club; my thanks go to the previous committee for laying the foundations for this to happen, and I hope that I can continue to build on these to strengthen our great cricket club for the future.

This season we see our first team make a welcome return to the Lincolnshire Premier League, with Rob Ambrose once again at the helm. The second team will take their place in the South Lincs and Borders Premier Division under new Captain Matt Gill.

The ladies team will be looking to become the bride and not the bridesmaid as in the previous two seasons, once again under the captaincy of Hayley Jones.

2016 saw a welcome return of a Sunday team competing in the Rutland League, the side was very much a development team under the guidance of some of our senior players. 2017 will see the team under the joint captaincy of two of our junior members, Josh Lawrence and Jonny Manton.

The clubs junior academy continues to go from strength to strength under the guidance of Academy Director Mark Laud, ably assisted by his group of dedicated coaches, whom give up their time so selflessly week after week. Congratulations to those junior boys and girls that will be representing us at County or Regional level this season, I look forward to hearing of your exploits, you are a credit to your club and to your coaches.

We wish all of our teams well for the coming season and the challenges that will be presented. Whether you are playing within the junior or senior ranks or indeed for our ladies, remember we are one club and wear our badge with pride! Please support our teams during the season as there will be lots of cricket being played, both home and away, and also the social functions we will hold throughout the season.

A big thank you to all of our sponsors past and present, we couldn’t manage without you and achieve the success we have on and off the field, THANK YOU!

Lastly may I thank my current committee and our Club President for your support, without you all contributing behind the scenes I could not, and Spalding Town Cricket Club certainly would not function as it does.

Remember to play hard, play fair but to most of all enjoy your summer of cricket.
