A big thank you to everyone at the club who contributed as a captain, player, coach or supporter in some way throughout the 2015 season. With so many teams at the club and so much cricket to be played, it is astonishing how much work needs to be done in order to ensure everything runs smoothly.

From the attainment of grants/ sponsorship and the arranging of fixtures before the season starts, to the efforts of the ground staff in preparing high quality wickets for the entirety of the season. From the efforts of all involved in coaching the next generation of keen young cricketers at the club, to the parents who taxi their children back and forth to games and practices alike. From those who prepared teas, helped at car boot sales or simply turned up to watch games and offer some support, to the captains who tirelessly worked to ensure everyone had a full team and that the club could compete in each and every game. And lastly, to the players, many of whom showed great flexibility and maturity in either playing at the last minute, or having to switch teams due to unavailability. Everyone has played their part.

Indeed, a whopping 145 players represented Spalding Town Cricket Club in 2015 and many have a lot to celebrate! The U13’s and U9 Sharks finished as Champions in their respective leagues, and the Ladies Team went on to finish very respectable runners-up in theirs! Even with the senior teams, for whom it proved to be a difficult season, it is a testament to those players involved who have stuck together, competed, and enjoyed their cricket despite results not always going their way. With such a strong foundation at the club, and a high degree of resolve resonating throughout, it’s onwards and upwards as we prepare for the 2016 season! Let’s make it a good one!

In the meanwhile, if anyone is considering becoming a scorer for the 2016 season or beyond, please see our News page for information on available courses.

Scorers Courses 2015/16

Before any definite arrangements are made for scorers courses before April 2016, an indication of who wants to take one and if they require a Beginners course or a Level 1 course is needed. Costs will depend on which course is undertaken, venue, etc. but to give a guideline, the beginners will be in the region of £20 – 25 and the Level 1 about £60.

The beginner’s course can be carried out in one day showing the candidates the basic of scoring including the umpire’s signals.

The Level 1 course may need to run over 3 part days. It is more in depth showing you how to complete a full scorebook by ball to ball recording and understanding and learning some of the rules relating to scoring. There will be an exam at the end of this course with an accreditation.

For more details either ring Anne Sutton on 01522 791030 or e-mail her at  BUT applications of interest must reach her BY 1ST DECEMBER 2015.
